(Spring refunds are being processed as aid is disbursed to the student accounts).
Any financial aid refund (financial aid in excess
of institutional charges) is disbursed
to the student by mail or direct deposit to a bank account. If a student thinks he or she will be entitled
to a financial aid refund, the student must indicate how the refund should be made. Here are the
refund methods:
1. Direct deposit to student's checking account.
- A completed authorization agreement must be on file in the
Student Accounts Office. (Download
a copy of this PDF form.) Enter your student ID - not your SSN on the form. ONCE THE FORM HAS BEEN SUBMITTED, ALL REFUNDS WILL BE DIRECT DEPOSITED UNTIL THE AUTHORIZATION IS REVOKED (contact the Student Accounts Office). Your name must be on the checking account. The account may not be a savings account
- The student's bank account will reflect the refund usually within three business days* from the date the refund amount is entered on the student's ASU account.
- To enhance service, Student Accounts requests that all
students with a personal checking account use this method. This
method will allow us to get the funds to the student the most efficient
and least costly way.
- Mailing addresses can cause delays. They must be entered properly and undated when you move - avoid problems by using direct deposit
2. Check mailed to the Enrolled Student Mailing Address
- Enrolled Student Mailing Address is the new term for Permanent Address.
- The refund check will be mailed within four business days* from the date the
refund amount is entered on the student's account.
- The check is mailed from the Controller's Office Annex.
- No action is necessary by the student. If Direct Deposit information is NOT on file, refund checks are automatically mailed to the enrolled student permanent address (permanent address) .
- ASU policy requires that two weeks be allowed for delivery before a check can be replaced. BE SURE YOUR ADDRESS IS ACCURATE AND UP TO DATE.
3. Check mailed to a designated address
- If the refund check is to be mailed to an address other than the enrolled student mailing address (permanent address), it must be entered as a "Student Refund address" through AppalNET; Self Service; "Student Services " tab; "Student Accounts" link; "Add a Refund Address" link; select "insert" a new address type, click the drop down box and select "Student Refunds STU," enter the address and click "submit".
- This method may direct a check to the ASU box or any other address entered. Once entered, this address will remain on file and refund checks will be mailed to this address until changed by the student. If a local address is entered and the student moves, the Student Refund address MUST be changed online by the student.
- The check will be mailed within four business days* from the date the refund amount is entered on the student's account.
- The check will be mailed from the Controller's Office Annex.
- ASU policy requires that two weeks be allowed for delivery before a check can be replaced. BE SURE YOUR ADDRESS IS ACCURATE AND UP TO DATE.

Pick up at the Cashier's Office is no longer an "option"
New "Banner" system processes all refunds either as a Direct deposit or to an Address. All checks going to an address will be sent from the Controller's Office to the University Post Office. Refund checks directed to the student's ASU BOX or direct deposit should be the quickest way to receive the refund.

Financial aid applicants
will be prompted to read the attached refund instructions explaning how to set the refund address. The
student must do this online through AppalNET Self Service. The attachment will provide detailed instructions to assist the student to set or change
his or her refund address before refunds are processed.

IF NO REFUND ADDRESS IS ENTERED, OR, IF NO DIRECT DEPOSIT AUTHORIZATION IS ON FILE, THE REFUND WILL BE MAILED TO YOUR ENROLLED STUDENT PERMANENT ADDRESS (PERMANENT) . DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOUR FINANCIAL AID POSTS TO YOUR ACCOUNT TO SET A "STUDENT REFUND" ADDRESS OR SUBMIT A DIRECT DEPOSIT FORM.....THAT WOULD BE TOO LATE!
