Please note: Change in Financial Aid Refund Procedure
If you have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and could potentially receive a financial aid refund for the Fall 2007 semester, you need to understand the information below.
Refunds are now processed based on an “address” on record in the system. You have an “Enrolled Student Mailing Address” (Permanent Address) on record. If no action is taken by you, your refund will go to this address.
If you want your refund to go to a different address, called the “Student Refund Address,” you must add it as a separate address via AppalNET. This address might be a local address or your ASU Box. The Refund Address is established as follows:
Select AppalNET and login using your username and password. Click on the Self
Service tab, select Student Services, select Student Accounts, select
Add Refund Address, select "insert" a new address, click on the drop down box and select "Student Refund STU " type and enter the address
where your refund is to be mailed. Click SUBMIT. To change the Student Refund address, click "update" and existing address.
Format for ASU Box is: (street address 1) ASU Box 01234, (City) Boone, (State) NC, (Zip) 28608
If you want your refund to go to your bank account (direct deposit), all that is necessary is to have an active “Direct Deposit Authorization” on file in the Student Accounts office. Once the form has been submitted, all future refunds will go the bank account entered on the Authorization until you submit a new form or contact Student Accounts to inactivate your Authorization. If you had an Authorization on file but did not select “B” as your refund option in the Spring, 07 semester, your Direct Deposit information was deactivated (call Student Accounts to have it reactivated). Direct Deposit Authorization forms are available at the Student Accounts Office and at http://www.studentaccounts.appstate.edu/refunds.html and should be submitted as soon as possible after filing your FAFSA to be active. A VOIDED CHECK MUST be attached to the authorization form when turned in or faxed. Your (student) name must be on the bank account. No savings accounts please. Act now or your refund may not go to the bank when processed.
The priority of “addresses” for processing your refund is:
A. Direct Deposit (if an active Authorization form is on file)
B. Submitted “Student Refund Address” (remains on file until you change or cancel it)
C. Enrolled Student Mailing Address (permanent) if neither A or B are desired
DIRECT DEPOSIT, FOLLOWED BY DELIVERY TO THE ASU BOX ARE THE MOST EFFICIENT METHODS OF RECEIVING A REFUND.
Note: Federal PLUS Loan refunds are made according to the parent borrower’s written authorization. Therefore, a PLUS Loan refund cannot be refunded to the student unless authorized by the parent borrower.
